Yubo Alternatives for Adults Who Want a Real Conversation

Yubo is now 18+, but swiping and livestreams aren’t for everyone. Here is what else adults use to meet new people, and how each one works.

Yubo is already 18+, so what are you replacing?

Yubo raised its minimum age to 18 on 1 November 2025, and every user now verifies their age with a selfie video. You no longer need to leave Yubo to find an adults-only app. If you are looking for an alternative, it is usually the format you want to change, not the age range.

Yubo is built around swiping and Lives, its group livestream rooms where people talk, play games, and hang out on camera. That is fun if you like a crowd. It is less fun if you want one person’s full attention.

If you want one-to-one instead of a crowd

HMU is the closest swap if you like Yubo’s live, social energy but want a smaller conversation. With Meet Now, HMU finds one compatible person and gives you both the same opening prompt. You talk for five minutes. Then each of you privately chooses whether to keep talking. If you both choose Keep, the chat continues.

There is no audience. The prompt gives you something to talk about, and the time limit means you can leave a conversation that isn’t working without it being awkward. HMU is for adults 18+, free on iPhone and Android, and has posts, stories, and chats so you can keep up with people you connect with.

If you want friends, not flirting

Yubo’s own FAQ says people use it for dating as well as friendship. If you only want friendship, BFF by Bumble is a friendship-only app: you match with people in your city, chat one-on-one, or join Groups, and it is free.

HMU sits in between. People use it for friendship, dating, or a good conversation. Say what you are looking for in the first few minutes. The five-minute format makes that easy to bring up, and your choice at the end stays private if the other person wants something different.

If you want to meet people offline

Meetup lists interest groups that meet in person, and joining and RSVPing is free. Timeleft matches small groups of strangers for dinner, drinks, coffee, or walks for a monthly subscription. 222 invites vetted members to group experiences in public places on iPhone. These swap the screen for a table, which many people find easier than it sounds.

What HMU doesn’t do

HMU has no livestreams or group rooms. If streaming with friends is what you love about Yubo, HMU won’t replace it. Meet Now is also one conversation at a time with someone who is free to talk now, not a room you can drop in and out of.

Safety basics carry over

On any app, keep your address, workplace, and financial details private until you trust someone. Be wary of anyone who rushes you to another platform or asks for money or images. Block and report right away. On HMU, reporting and blocking are available throughout the app.
